Hi,

 

Is 瞪 as in 瞪眼 pronounced as cing4, dang1 or something else?

I JUST FOUND OUT FROM K'ANG XI DICTIONARY, AND IT WAS PRONOUNCED AS " CING 4 " THAT SIMILAR TO BE PRONOUNCED AS "澄", MEANS "TO LOOK FORWARD"

 

BUT IN CANTONESE COLLOQUIAL, WE PRONOUNCED IT AS " DANG 1" , IN THE FOLKS, USUALLY IT MEANS " TO OPEN YOUR EYES WIDELY ( TO SEE SOMETHING MORE CLEARLY) "

 

BUT IT'S A NEGATIVE COLLOQUIAL.

 

TO THE CONTENTS ABOVE , IT MAY NOT BE COMPLETLY WHOLE, THERE WILL BE OTHER MEMBERS TO OFFER A NEW ADDICTION

For an example

When reading this poetry sentence " 瞪眸不轉晇.............."  pronounced as " cing 4 "

Ah ok, so only in formal context like in poetries.

It's not difinitly as it was, in the dictionary, there were others pronounciation , such as CANG 2 , like orange, but I don't like to show you as caussing you confused and in congession

 

It's a constant to be pronounced as " Cing 4 and " Dang 1"( Cantonese Colloquial)
