How do you pronounce 甫 as in 一言甫畢 and what does it mean?

It should be pronounced as  " FU2 " (斧) in "康煕 dictionery" , but usuallly it is pronounced as " POU2 " in Cantonese

 

There are some meaning for the Character  "甫" as below:

 

1 ) For a man, it stands for "Handsome"

 

2) For the Charactor " 言 " ,  it stands for " Big "

 

3) And it is a pural surname follow the Character "皇", that's  "皇甫"

 

By logic, the Idiom" 一言甫畢". it's similar to the Cantonese colloquial "一句講晒 "

So, both fu2 and pou2 are ok in 一言甫畢, but pou2 is more commonly used?

That's right ! "pou2 "is more commonly used ,

據我理解「一言甫畢」意思係「才話音剛落，就即刻…」。

請教除了浮字有發F音及P音(袍)外,尚有那些字是類此两種發音呢?

番 ( Faan 1 ) ~ 番茄

 

番 ( Poon 1 ) ~ 番禺

 

番 ( Bo 3 )     ~ 獸足曰"番"
