The Russians sank a Hong Kong freighter last month, killing the seven Chinese seamen on board. We can live with that—Lenin and Stalin were once the ideological mentors of all Chinese people. The Japanese planted a flag on Diàoyú Island. That’s no big problem—we Hong Kong Chinese love Japanese cartoons, Hello Kitty, and shopping in Shinjuku,let alone our round-the-clock obsession with karaoke.

But hold on—even the Filipinos? Manila has just claimed sovereignty over the scattered rocks in the South China Sea called the Spratly Islands,complete with a blatant threat from its congress to send gunboats to the South China Sea to defend the islands from China if necessary. This is beyond reproach. The reason: there are more than 130,000 Filipina maids working as $3,580-a-month cheap labor in Hong Kong. As a nation of servants, you don’t flex your muscles at your master, from whom youearn most of your bread and butter.

As a patriotic Chinese man, the news has made my blood boil. I summoned Louisa, my domestic assistant who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila, hung a map on the wall, and gave her a harsh lecture. I sternly warned her that if she wants her wages increased next year, she had better tell every one of her compatriots in Statue Square on Sunday that the entirety of the Spratly Islands belongs to China.

Grimly, I told her that if war breaks out between the Philippines and China, I would have to end her employment and send her straight home, because I would not risk the crime of treason for sponsoring an enemy of the state by paying her to wash my toilet and clean my windows16 hours a day. With that money, she would pay taxes to her government,and they would fund a navy to invade our motherland and deeply hurt my feelings.

Oh yes. The government of the Philippines would certainly be wrong if they think we Chinese are prepared to swallow their insult and sit back and lose a Falkland Islands War in the Far East. They may have Barack Obama and the hawkish American military behind them, but we have a hostage in each of our homes in the Mid-Levels or higher. Some of my friends told me they have already declared a state of emergency at home. Their maids have been made to shout 「China, Madam/Sir」 loudly whenever they hear the word 「Spratly.」 They say the indoctrination is working as wonderfully as when we used to shout, 「Long live Chairman Mao!」 at the sight of a portrait of our Great Leader during the Cultural Revolution. I’m not sure if that’s going a bit too far, at least for the time being.

「 我 已 經 採 取 了 相 應 措 施 ， 」 國 難 當 前 ， 至 緊 要 沉 着 ， 我 說 ： 「 自 菲 律 賓 挑 釁 之 日 起 ， 我 已 經 對 家 裏 的 菲 傭 ， 訓 話 半 小 時 ， 上 地 理 課 ， 除 了 申 明 南 沙 群 島 的 主 權 ， 還 着 令 她 星 期 天 去 皇 后 廣 場 坐 在 地 上 跟 一 眾 姐 妹 啃 雞 腿 的 時 候 ， 把 中 國 人 民 對 菲 律 賓 的 憤 怒 ， 廣 泛 傳 達 出 去 。 香 港 人 愛 國 有 責 ， 師 奶 護 土 也 有 責 ， 每 次 批 准 你 家 的 菲 傭 上 廁 所 前 ， 必 須 大 聲 斥 問 ： 南 沙 群 島 是 哪 一 國 領 土 ？ 非 要 那 位 Maria 高 聲 答 ： China, Madam! 才 准 她 解 決 。 」
「 有 幾 個 會 那 麼 溫 順 呢 ？ 」 秘 書 Grace 說 ： 「 平 時 叫 她 少 打 兩 個 錢 斧 頭 ， 她 都 眼 瞅 瞅 ， 我 家 那 隻 衰 嘢 ， 我 先 生 也 跟 她 講 過 南 沙 問 題 的 ， 她 一 扁 嘴 ， 走 進 工 人 房 不 出 來 。 」
「 那 就 快 把 熨 斗 插 上 電 掣 ， 燒 紅 來 侍 候 好 了 ， 」 × 君 說 ： 「 愛 國 無 罪 ， 賓 婆 那 麼 囂 張 ， 要 予 以 制 裁 。 」
「 但 香 港 的 司 法 ， 不 幸 還 由 港 英 餘 孽 把 持 着 ， 他 們 不 會 配 合 香 港 僱 主 的 愛 國 行 動 的 ， 」 我 沉 吟 ： 「 菲 傭 說 南 沙 群 島 是 她 的 ， 你 用 熱 熨 斗 燙 她 的 嘴 ， 申 張 民 族 大 義 ， 不 是 不 可 以 ， 但 律 政 司 會 控 告 你 傷 人 ， 法 官 夏 正 民 之 類 ， 會 與 美 國 暗 相 呼 應 ， 重 判 我 們 香 港 師 奶 同 胞 入 獄 的 。 」
「 到 底 是 香 港 人 ， 」 × 君 說 ： 「 就 是 畏 首 畏 尾 ， 跟 煲 呔 一 個 樣 。 行 政 、 立 法 、 司 法 ， 要 互 相 支 持 ， 為 國 家 主 權 服 務 ， 這 是 大 原 則 嘛 。 」 我 聽 了 ， 低 頭 不 語 ， 政 治 太 複 雜 了 ， 我 們 香 港 人 不 懂 。
但 如 果 菲 律 賓 政 府 派 海 軍 在 南 沙 插 了 旗 ， 香 港 僱 主 非 禮 菲 傭 的 個 案 ， 可 能 理 直 氣 壯 地 大 增 。 「 你 偷 雞 了 我 一 把 ， 我 也 那 麼 狗 摸 你 一 下 ， 為 什 麼 不 可 以 ？ 」 × 君 說 ， 仰 首 大 笑 ， 我 也 在 一 旁 陪 笑 ！ 哈 哈 ， 哈 哈 哈 ─ ─ 高 官 們 ， 聽 到 了 沒 有 ？ 這 就 是 民 意 了 。

(綜合報道)(星島日報報道)陶傑玩出火！人稱「才子」的專欄作家陶傑，近日在免費英文雜誌《HK Magazine》登刊「家庭內戰」文章，將在港有多達十三萬傭工的菲律賓，形容為「僕人國家」，無權侵佔「主人家」南沙群島的主權。菲律賓政府在國民連日口誅筆伐下，昨將陶傑列為「不受歡迎人物」的入境黑名單，意味四十九年來從未踏足菲律賓的陶傑，與島國絕緣。陶傑昨晚重申，向菲國道歉，但澄清文章絕無不敬之意。 原名曹捷的陶傑，其「僕人國家」的言論，連日來激起菲國朝野炮轟，菲律賓入境官員，昨日更發表聲明，直指陶傑「態度傲慢、不尊重菲律賓及菲律賓人民」，決定將他列入「不受歡迎外國人黑名單」，「以表達我們對曹先生種族藐視和侮辱菲律賓人的不滿」。 事件的導火綫，緣於上周五出版的英文免費雜誌《HK magazine》，陶以「The War At Home」（家庭內戰）為題撰文，形容菲律賓是「僕人國家」，菲律賓宣稱擁有南沙群島主權，但作為愛國者的他萬萬不能容忍，因為全港有超過十三萬名菲律賓僱工，「作為僕人國家，不能對主人還擊」，並且會對其菲傭說，若想來年加薪，便須向同胞說明南沙群島的主權屬中國云云。 陶傑回覆本報時表示，再次向菲律賓道歉，以及撤回文章的立場，並尊重對方決定。四十九年來從未踏足菲國的他又表明，無意闖關。而雜誌《HK Magazine》亦就事件向菲國致歉。 陶傑辯稱，由始至終均無意對菲國不敬。他解釋，原文「nation of servants（僕人國家）」，「係用servants，唔係maids，政府官員都叫civil servants。」他說：「菲律賓的國教係天主教，根據天主教教義，人類係上帝的僕人，文章只係提升到宗教層面，絕無貶義。」陶傑更將菲律賓與英國相提並論，說兩個都係大國，「英國都曾經畀人叫：『海盜國家』，拿破崙都形容過英國人係『nation of shopkeepers』（店小二民族），我只係以敬畏之心，將佢當成英國這樣的泱泱大國！」 民主黨主席何俊仁(相關)認為，陶傑應書面向菲國鄭重道歉，以平息事件。「中國人以前都有好多人，湧去其他國家做難民，難道他人又罵中國係『難民之國』，係『黃禍』？」

香港记者撰文涉嫌种族歧视遭到菲律宾抗议

德新社：香港的菲律宾劳工宣布本周日将举行示威活动，抗议香港记者陶杰在文章中称菲律宾为"仆人国家"，涉及种族歧视。陶杰在最新一期《香 港杂志》发表文章称，菲律宾近来威胁派遣砲艇保护南沙群岛，并称拥有南沙群岛主权，确实"过份"。因为目前有大约13万菲律宾人在香港做雇工，而"作为一 个仆人国家，不要在你赚取麵包和牛油的主人身上展现你的肌肉。" 陶杰的这篇文章引起菲律宾劳工组织和政界的严重抗议，而他本人此后也多次就此道歉。

I suppose he overreacted a little bit. Actually i have a handful of friends from that country and they are just nice people.  Claiming sovereignty over Spratly islands can be just regarded as a political stance. Just be patient coz we are not fully prepared to recover those islands. Time will come that they bow to us from the bottom of their hearts.
