佛山四大土著姓氏中的“雞”姓，就祇能寫作“雞”，而不能寫作“鷄”。

《說文》﹕「雞﹐知時畜也。從隹奚聲。鷄，籀文雞從鳥。」

象形字從鳥﹐不過小篆係「雞」﹐隸變後楷書都係「雞」。所謂「籀文雞從鳥」指大篆。

臺灣標準字係「雞」。
