標準音係絕對正確的，所有粵語字典都有寫明廣州話係粵語標準音或者標準粵語。代表音是甚麼，粵語字典沒有提及。

廣東話一詞起於近幾年的香港，以前香港都經常叫廣州話，TVB曾有個節目叫「妙談廣州話」。但是香港自從有了「廣東話」後，「廣州話」就基本消失在公共場合。而受到香港電視的影響，不少廣東人以為香港人很反感「廣州話」一詞，甚至連自己也反感。

中秋晚同幾個同鄉食飯，我問佢哋同我講緊話嘅語言係乜，一個韶關乳源嘅話係「白話」，另外三個分別係南海大瀝、順德大良、中山石岐嘅都話係「廣東話」。我係廣州人，身在南京

统一粤语，广东话，广州话。。。。等等叫法，就叫正汉语或纯汉语，以别于普语。
